Encrusting is the technique of adding a small amount of material to a seed to enable accurate mechanical seed metering. Growers who are primarily concerned with reducing double or multiples rather than consistent seed spacing often choose to encrust there seeds. Entrustment is most often used on crops that benefit from seed simulation but don’t require post emergence thinning. Encrusted seed can be used in green house or out on the field. This addition of material changes the minimally shape of the raw seed.
Benefits
Increased the weight of seed.
Better for low caliber and uneven surface seed
Maintain the sowing spacing between the seed.
Encrusting material absorbs moisture and accelerates seed germination and vigor.
